How is HPV transmitted?
HPV is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity. According to the Centers for Disease Control, nearly all sexually active adults will get HPV at some point in their lives. HPV can also remain dormant in the body. This means that an HPV infection from many years ago can reappear, depending on how your immune system is managing the virus at the time of your screening. If you have questions about how an HPV result may or may not impact your sexual partner(s), your Teal provider will be happy to help answer these during your follow-up appointment.
