Will I get the same results using the Teal Wand that I would if I went in for a speculum exam?

Yes, the vaginal sample collected with the Teal Wand has been extensively tested to make sure it can catch high risk HPV when present, and the primary HPV test can accurately detect cervical precancers.* Our national clinical study showed that self-collected samples with the Teal Wand match clinician-collected samples for detecting cervical precancers.

The Teal Wand sample, when tested with primary HPV, detects high-risk HPV. HPV can come and go over time. Most of these HPV infections are not associated with cervical precancers and will clear over time. Teal follows current guidelines on vaginal self-collection and follow-up care. The key to screening is finding any cell changes caused by HPV as early as possible, so it is important to monitor over time.

*Cervical precancer is also known as cervical dysplasia. It refers to abnormal cell changes in the cervix, which are almost always caused by persistent HPV infections. If left untreated for many years, precancer can develop into cervical cancer.
